Football Manager Create a Club Project

Updated: Sep 15, 2020

I’m big into Football Manager, and for FM19, I wanted to create a different challenge for myself. I wanted to create my club from scratch and see how far I could take the club (long story short, I wasn’t offered a new contract reasonably early on). However, this was my first experience of Adobe Photoshop, and I felt it went pretty well.

My process was creating a logo, something simple that my skills could produce a good looking logo. I’m a Packers fan in the NFL and having just gone to Wisconsin I decided to create a piece of cheese as the logo.

I decided to create a piece of cheese as the logo and googled “cheese cartoon” for inspiration for how to draw the cheese as well as the famous Cheesehead hat's that Packers fans wear. The plan was to keep it simple as I believe simple is always better and also matched my skills.

A block of cheese was the aim and I started by creating a rectangle at a slight angle and a triangle on top of that as the base. To make it more realistic, I put a few circles inside of the cheese block with a darker shade of yellow. To give it an organic look, I used circles of the background colour, so it looked more pleasing on the eye. The background colour was a shade of green that I felt contrasted the type of yellow I used for the cheese block with an outer circle of the same colour of the cheese to give an outline. “WFC” part of the logo is designed to look simple, easy to read and blend in with the main part of the logo.

For the kit, I asked a couple of friends on how to put the kit in-game and got the answer of download a pre-made kit and then put the colour combination you want from there as well as input the logo.

For the home kit, I, once again, kept the design simple using a slightly different shade of green so the logo stood out and a neon yellow collar and sleeve to give the kit some flair.

For the away kit, I went for a contrasting look to the home kit, so I went for a red. This ensures that a kit clash isn't possible as well as looking retro.

For the 3rd kit, I went for blue with yellow as that's what makes green and it also gives no chance of a kit clash.

Mood Board (left to right): The famous packers cheesehead hat, Cheese Cartoon 1, Cheese Cartoon 2.

Self-Created Logo: Cheese block; proud of it, especially being my first ever project.

Home Kit: A simple yet effective kit which I enjoyed seeing in Football Manager.

Away Kit: Another simple, retro kit - this time in red.

3rd Kit: Another simple yet effective kit - this time in blue.
